Chelsea produced one of their most complete performances of the season as they dismantled Liverpool 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernández leading the charge. The dominant display not only dented Liverpool’s confidence as newly crowned Premier League champions but also reignited Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the top four.
The match got off to a stunning start, with Fernández opening the scoring inside just three minutes. A fluid move orchestrated by Palmer and Pedro Neto carved through Liverpool’s defense, allowing Fernández to calmly slot past Alisson Becker and set the tone for what was to follow.
Chelsea maintained control throughout the first half, with Liverpool struggling to build rhythm. In the second half, the Blues capitalized further when Palmer’s dangerous delivery into the box forced Jarell Quansah into an own goal. Palmer’s sharp movement and decision-making continued to torment the visitors and was a clear reminder of the playmaker’s value.
Liverpool responded late in the game through a towering header by Virgil van Dijk in the 84th minute, offering a glimmer of hope. But Chelsea remained composed, with Moisés Caicedo and Marc Cucurella providing stability and energy in midfield and defense.
In stoppage time, Chelsea sealed the result after Caicedo was brought down by Quansah, earning a penalty. Palmer confidently stepped up to convert from the spot, ending an 18-match goal drought in style and capping off a stellar personal performance.
This vital win lifted Chelsea to fifth in the Premier League standings, level on points with fourth-placed Newcastle United. With only three matches left — including a critical clash against Newcastle — the Blues’ push for Champions League qualification is alive and well.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his players’ mentality and execution, noting that performances like this prove they belong at the top. If this level of form is sustained, Chelsea could yet turn a turbulent season into one of redemption.
