Kompany: Bayern Focused on the Match, Not the Celebrations

Published on May 02, 2025

With the Bundesliga title within reach, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has made it clear: there will be no premature celebrations. Ahead of Bayern’s crucial clash against RB Leipzig, Kompany emphasized that his squad is solely focused on winning the match not planning a party.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Kompany set the tone for what could be a championship-sealing weekend. “We want to win tomorrow and be champions,” he stated. “That would be nice. Tomorrow is a final for us. Hopefully, we do it. We're preparing as normal for Leipzig. I’m not preparing any celebrations. I’m preparing for the game.”

Bayern Munich currently sits eight points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, with three matches left in the season. A win over Leipzig at the Allianz Arena would officially crown them champions. Even a draw or a loss could be enough, depending on Leverkusen’s result at Freiburg the following day. However, Kompany is taking no chances and insists his team must treat this like a final.

Kompany also acknowledged the challenge that RB Leipzig presents. “They have a lot of talent and quality, lots of good young players. They lost in Frankfurt last week. I think they’ll now play with full energy again, look to attack,” he said. Leipzig, who are still pushing for Champions League qualification, are expected to arrive with intensity and ambition.

One notable absence for Bayern will be top scorer Harry Kane, who is suspended for the match. The England international has been phenomenal this season, registering 36 goals and 12 assists in all competitions. Despite his absence on the pitch, Kompany praised Kane’s leadership and mental strength, noting that the striker will likely travel with the team for support. “Harry is one of our best players mentally. He knows his moment is coming. He’s exuding confidence,” Kompany added.

Kane’s influence off the field could prove valuable, especially in such a decisive fixture. His presence among teammates may provide the extra motivation Bayern need to get over the line.

For Kompany, who is seeking his first major title as Bayern manager, the task is clear. With the Bundesliga trophy in sight, his message remains grounded in discipline: “We need to prepare for the game, not for a party.

Should Bayern secure the title this weekend, it will mark their 34th league crown and extend their dominance over German soccer. But until the final whistle blows, Kompany is keeping everyone focused on one thing getting the job done.
