Manchester City Eye Wolves Star Rayan Aït-Nouri in $63M Summer Transfer to Bolster Defense

Published on Jun 03, 2025

Manchester City have made Wolverhampton Wanderers’ left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri a top priority in their summer transfer window, as Pep Guardiola seeks to reinforce his defensive options ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. Talks are progressing between the two Premier League clubs, with the 23-year-old Algerian international reportedly keen on a move to the Etihad.

Rayan Aït-Nouri Transfer: City Look to Fill Key Defensive Gap

City’s pursuit of Aït-Nouri comes after a season in which the left-back role was often filled by makeshift options. The Wolves defender, valued at around $63 million (£50 million), offers technical ability, versatility, and attacking threat — all essential traits in Guardiola's system.

Aït-Nouri registered 5 goals and 7 assists in 41 appearances for Wolves in the 2024–25 season, drawing praise for his ability to transition quickly between defense and attack. With Joško Gvardiol frequently used out of position and Sergio Gómez expected to leave, the need for a natural left-back has become urgent at Manchester City.

Premier League Summer Transfer Window Heats Up

Manchester City are aiming to finalize the Aït-Nouri deal before they travel for their Club World Cup debut on June 18. While Wolves are holding out for the full valuation, City are expected to table an offer closer to $44 million (£35 million). Sources indicate Aït-Nouri has already shown interest in joining the reigning Premier League champions, making a transfer likely if terms can be agreed.

City are also monitoring other defensive targets but view Aït-Nouri as a long-term solution who can slot in immediately. The Algerian’s proven Premier League experience and age profile fit the club’s ongoing strategy under Guardiola and new sporting director Txiki Begiristain.

Guardiola Eyes Depth Ahead of FIFA Club World Cup

With City set to compete in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and chase another domestic title, adding depth to their full-back ranks is essential. The club wants to secure key signings early in the summer to ensure smooth integration and pre-season preparations.

Aït-Nouri’s potential arrival could be the start of a broader defensive reshuffle, with Manchester City also linked to central defenders and midfield reinforcements. Guardiola is reportedly eager to refresh the squad without disrupting the core that brought them continued domestic success.
