Barcelona winger Raphinha has spoken out about his difficult relationship with former manager Xavi Hernández, revealing that a lack of trust from the coaching staff left him feeling sidelined and underappreciated during the early stages of his time at the club.

In a candid interview, the Brazilian international shared how he often felt overlooked by Xavi and his team, despite strong performances. “I felt that neither he nor the coaching staff trusted me,” Raphinha stated. He pointed to multiple instances where he was substituted early in games, including a Europa League clash with Manchester United where, despite scoring and assisting, he was the first player taken off. “I couldn’t believe it,” he said, referencing the now-famous clip of his emotional reaction on the bench.

Raphinha’s frustration wasn't limited to one match. He revealed that he regularly approached Xavi for discussions, hoping to understand and possibly change the dynamic. However, those conversations led nowhere. “I tried to fix it, I had several conversations with him, but I saw that these didn't make any difference,” he admitted.

Things began to change drastically with the arrival of Hansi Flick. Under the new manager, Raphinha has transformed into one of Barcelona’s most influential players. With 31 goals and 25 assists in 52 appearances this season, he has not only become a regular starter but has also captained the team on several occasions. The winger is now being mentioned as a serious candidate for the Ballon d'Or.

Raphinha credits Flick for fostering a culture of confidence and support. “He is someone who looks out for all the players,” he said, contrasting Flick's inclusive approach with the rigidity he experienced under Xavi.
